Asi que, me han preguntado muchas amigas ¿cual es la diferencia entre if y whether’? Ya sabes que la gramática me aburre pero ¿que podemos hacer? me preguntas… yo respondo. La diferencia entre ‘whether’ y ‘if’ en inglés es…
1. Usamos ‘whether’ antes de un verbo en infinitivo:
I’m not sure whether to attend the class or not.
He doesn’t know whether to paint his house red or not.

2. Usamos ‘whether’ después de las preposiciónes:
I haven’t decided the question of whether to attend the class or not.
I haven’t decided the issue of whether the workers should recieve more money.
3. Muchas veces se pueden utilizar las dos. Es decir que son intercambiable:
I haven’t decided whether I’m going to buy him a present or not.
I haven’t decided if I’m going to buy him a present or not.
4. Después del uso de ‘or not’:
What we need to discuss is whether or not things have improved.
The important issue is whether or not you want to come to the party.
5. ‘Whether’ es importante cuando una clausula esta al principio de una oración o en la segunda clausula de una oración.
Whether people like it or not, they have to call me ‘sir.’
Whether the banks want to or not, they have to pay compensation.
